Toronto degree-days starting out strong

The headlines scream that 2023 will be the 'hottest year ever'.  By what measure?  The worst is global air temperature, that is totally controlled by North America in the summer, with heat from the tropics.

Degree-day is a strong measure, and is related to heating bills.

The heat of the summer is determined by cooling degree-days.

The media goes by peak temperature for one-day heat waves.  As our tropical winds become non-existent, we have stagnant desert weather, which is great for the media, but the cooling degree days are going down.

But, nobody reads this, so everything is warmer, as our air conditioning demand goes down, and heating goes up.

ps  UK at -10.  A while to go yet.
