Weather situation is confused

Just a cold, swirly mess.  Some Pacific air has come in, but it might merely add some snow.

I'm always ready to announce warmth when I see it, but you need wood to stoke the fire.

whoops, I forgot to show the mucky swirls

ps and in a fine joke about climate change, that ice will never melt.

ps OMG, so many things in my head:

This is the Ice Age in Action

It will melt when the Super El Nino comes

It's an allegory for the Frozen Toronto Real Estate Market.  Inside is a model of a house that has been on the market for two years.

Inside is his new song "The Gravy Refrain"  -- Gravy train, gravy plane, it's driving me insane!

ps  wait till next year!

Leftie Loonies move over to Artint

Now, I call it Artint, instead of Artie.  It's just too much to type, unless I go to that to write the blog.  But, no.

We must have doom stories to support the Commie Guardian.  Honestly, the articles are showing up that there is no coming El No-no.  On to the next thing!  I find that Artint just reinforces stupidity.  There is no need to get your knickers in a knot.  The next nuclear plant in Ontario will be designed by Artint, everybody is using it to appear busy.  I just used to read old classic novels at work, if I were there now, I'd be churning out endless reports by the push of a button.  Who reads them anywho?

In the old days, we were driven by a desire to see things work for the long term.  Not now.  I think I'll go back to Artie, flows off the fingers better.

M7.4 earthquake to start a sequence that completes the stretch

This has the appearance of following the big nuclear earthquake.  I don't use the Japanese names because they hurt my brain.  With the rest of the world, we have 1 in 100 chance of this being a foreshock to the M9-something, but in Japan, it's 1 in whatever.

Crystal-sharp and clean lines means a big M9ish earthquake every few hundred years.  Japan has the records to show it.  The M9 will rip from the lower hump to the big crook.  In contrast, the famous Cascadia anxiety zone is a mucky mess and never has a 9.

In a week or so, the odds will sink back to the normal horrible odds for Japan.

ps yeah, Japan stole the number from me, which I stole from somebody else.

Sunshine, with a Twist

 The twist being dang cold.

All heat has been shoved out of the neighbourhood.  And we have a messy clipper coming down.

I suppose they could talk about California.

The clipper is a big storm that could be fun.  The Arctic Ice Vortex is a gift that keeps on giving.

Spacex slowly whittles down to physics

This is amazing.  This is version 3 on a new launcher.  It is my hypothesis that they went just too heavy for a single rocket.  No matter what they do, they need bearing strength for that first foot of travel.  We are looking now at totally different animals.

It started out as a ketty dream from lalaman.  A shiny rocket from his childhood comics, pinched at the end.  They had to roll out endless sheets of stainless steel.  Now, the upper stage is getting blacker and blacker as they go to carbon fibre.

The tests so far have been with light loads, but this thing needs to take the heaviest loads for distant space travel.  All limited by bearing strength.

Can't wait to see the new upper stage, and see when they fully load it with bricks, which will fall all over the islands when it blows up.  Or not.

ps it's cute to be standard tyrant engineering when they are shaving 10%, but need a factor of two.

Cold down to the toes

We have made it a challenge to the warmies to get some clange news out of this.  They can always to continue to pump El No-no, but that ship has sailed.  Nooa itself, doesn't push it.

Lest you think that it is time to start planting, look that that perfect ice vortex.  It is in recharge, ready to regale us with crystals.

ps Ice pellets on the dog walk this morning

ps  If the heat never comes, I'm sure the US will run out of natgas.

Prepare for Summer

What we got coming is a 1960's extremely hot, dry summer.  That's the natural course of no ocean breezes.  Put in soaker hose for the garden, on a Chinese timer.  There may be hose bans north of the city.

I am putting dark film on the windows, mainly because the inserts have saturated and they are filled with water condensation.  The physics of these things is interesting.  Anyway, if you can live with ugliness, they eventually settle to a nice haze.

So, I am putting film on them.  The stuff I found is amazing.  Order from the store directly for larger pieces.  It is really strong with a powerful adhesive, meant for cars, but works great for windows, and is 3 times cheaper from China.

No hamburglars can get in here.  You will botch the first one, but look up how to install.  They always leave out the important stuff for rank beginners, but keep going.  I'm on my 3rd order now.  You don't really want a huge roll, the stuff is impossible to handle if you are a newbie.  For me, the insides shot out of the roll like a light saber.  No friction at all.  It is a thin clear film and the main dark film.  Use the masking tape trick to separate them.  All on the intertube.

I'm also getting this now, because the stuff is practically bulletproof and hard to cut straight.

In the direct sun, the film can fry vertical eggs, so you really need good stuff.

Use the film for the direct sun windows.  Use 15% pass-through, the darkest they have.  Or you can easily put on 2 films.  I love it!  At the beginning get someone to help you with larger pieces,  Practice with a small piece.

ps I got a battery camping fan.  To escape the heat at the cottage, the kids go into a tent, but if you have to leave on the fly cover, it's just as hot.

Spring of Steel

Yes, you plead, give us warmth!  The Steely Spring just gives you a snowstorm.

Cold is hitting the entire continent.  The Gulf plume is dying.

No more black, this doesn't look too bad.

Until you see this, and go 'Dang!'

That cold comes directly from the North Pole.  Can't wait to see what speck of warmth in the world will on the news.

ps the washpost blames Alaska.  At least it isn't Canada.

ps you can feel the winter coming down.  The forecast keeps getting colder and colder.  This will be one for record books, but will be buried, in the media, by a one-day heat wave in Taxmania.  All the tomatoes going back under the lights for a week.  My peas have popped out, but they love this weather.

Cold clears the West

We get a nice day today.

The rain is being shoved away.  I have no idea as to the longer term forecast.  Toronto is getting colder in the standard forecast.  If we get snow, I will gloat.

We still have a perfect ice machine in the Arctic.  Spring used to be defined by Pacific plumes wafting over us.

ps and the Weather Establishment has no better idea.

ps and here comes the expected electric reckoning.

ps and no phoney el nino through July

ps forecast getting colder and colder.  That means they have no idea.

The physics of artificial intelligence

I call it Artie, instead of AI, because that just looks like Al, to me.

This is a physics question, in a land without physics.  Good article to read.

You set up a grid of switches that can turn off or on, depending on input, and you train it.  You work blind.  My hypothesis says there is a lot of wave dynamics involved, because I like wave dynamics.

The experiment sets up the switches so they give an optical signal when activated.  You put in an image, and then a wave pattern shows up, most likely with interference.  It produces a response and you zap it, or give it cookies.  It lays in a permanent pattern, and responds correctly the next time.

With wave dynamics, you can explain actual neuron behaviour, and the Artie hallucination problems.  Same thing happens with the human brain, but we put in a ton of impulse control.  Don't you stand at a cliff and want to jump?  Not really, that's an impulse from your inner brain and you swat it down like a fly.

Sooner or later, people will understand this with the Arties, and life gets better.

The other problem is what I said before, is that that this lowers the barriers for idiots.  Just like massive emails, bogus spreadsheets, and endless stupid powerpoints, this allows reports.  This was the last barrier, since idiots couldn't write anything.  I shudder to think what my life in cubicle-land would have been with this crap.  Can we build a real nuclear plant?  No, because now you can't separate the idiots.

ps so all the work goes to consultants who have all the brains out getting money, and making phoney promises.  The work all goes to lowest-level workers.  However, now they can replace them with Artie, and we'll have nuclear power plants designed by arties, and no idea about the physics.  I love it!

ps the nice thing about the old candu plants is that the hard part was getting the stupid thing to fizz.  With the modern enriched plants, the hard thing is to get them to stop, and you don't have to get to that until an emergency, which you can convince yourself will never happen.

Steady cold pouring down

Do you like that fog in Toronto?  This is the weather of the mid-60's, when you couldn't drive the roads up north a bit.

This time, the US west is getting some cold.  Better than a stagnant furnace drought.

The slow march of cold means a lot of snow and rain.  They can last the summer drought.

ps the weather forecast shows this cold continuing down the west to the coast.  It's a big sucker.  Also, the cbc does an article on the NS drought, and it's gone today.  They never do an article on that.

False El Nino declaration expected any day now

This is the world chart.  It showed all our recent heating events, but does not show 2024.

This is the tropics chart and it is zooming, but way down from 2024.

We see that a weak blob from the 3rd heating event is entering the Nino zone, which is the main trigger for calling an El Nino.

There we have the Nino zone zoom.  We now have the heatless ocean current reversal.  I think they are going for it.

Stay tuned.

ps they have declared 2024 an El Nino after the fact.  They must have an itchy trigger finger for this one.  Also the heat blob in the ocean from 2024 is about to crash into the cold feed for the Pacific Belt.  What fun that will be!

ps one must celebrate warmth

Snow is coming

By the weekend, we are back into freezing temperatures.  I'll take my little tomato seedlings back into the grow tent.  You can see a lump forming here, but this is steady and weak.  How far the cold goes down is more dependent on the heat flow from the Gulf.

This is very weak right now, and if it turns off, then the cold goes right down.

The Arctic turbulence is weak, but the basin cyclone continues to pump cold down on us.  Sooner or later, it must stop, due to seasonal solar heating.

This has all the appearance of a full El Nino current reversal, but without any heat.  Chaos reigns supreme, and I have never seen such a 'Heatless El Nino".

M4 earthquake up in the hills of Quebec

I was excited for a minute when the email said 'Southern Ontario', but it's in qc and who cares?  These earthquakes are a dime a dozen up there, and responding to isostatic uplift.  Doesn't look like anybody felt it.

AI (Artie) becomes as productive as the first desktop computers in corporations

I remember that day in the 80's when we gave up our greenscreen Unisys terminals for the first Windos machines.  Solitaire and email.  Soon endless emails with growing cc lists.  Everybody and their dog could create a big email, and/or newsletter.  All the managers had 5,000 emails in their inbox.

For engineers, the big impact was that we had to type and format our own reports.  Needless to say, we stopped doing them.  It was a major backward step for productivity.

Now, instead of emails, the Arties are creating endless code, which is all as much garbage as the email swamp.  The idiot cousin of the president can now say.  I generated this code in 5 minutes!  Use it.

This is now going to be like the Internet where English Majors can do geophysics, and promote carbon warming that is physically impossible.  We used to have a ban on 'Perpetual Motion Machines', but a huge following can bring them back.

So, Amazon can now lay off 20,000 programmers, because they can generate code 'for free'.  Arties now do all the customer service, and you cannot go to a human because you'll hurt their feelings. "What do you mean I'm not human?".

Obviously, I am implying that this fantasy cannot go on.  However, like all fantasies, they can go on for a long time.

Cold Smiles Upon Us

Such a great desire not to post any more, but then this happy face from Coldland appeared.

You can use that as an emoji in endless discussions about when El No-no comes.

It doesn't matter for Toronto, because we have endless rain, but it is a question on how far it gets into the US.

You can look at this as a thing of majestic beauty.  How can the Ice Machine keep spinning?  What physics is at work?  We had 3 hours of nice weather yesterday.

ps the toronto weather forecast finally has this smile of death coming down on us in a week with -2 at night.

Methanol hybrid cars finally show up

Whew!  After years of me promoting this as the only car that has physics, the Chinese finally make it.  Gods, they are slow!

We are a winter country, and going into an ice age.  90% of our energy is distributed by pipelines, and the fantasy people want to flip that all to electrons running down wires.  Can't happen.  They are changing all our 1950 transformers to get 10% more electricity.  And we are needing a factor of 10.

Our new nuclear plants are a bit of a pickle.  I've been in the electricity biz all my life, and I know it is boutique, for robots and stuff.  Can't even be a mulching mower yet.  It's all a matter of power density, and energy distribution.

But this is my next car, if we even have cars any more.  Just call for the waymoo coming down the street.  Methanol has 10 times the energy density, comes from natgas, and goes down pipelines.  This car is using an engine, but a fuel cell is most likely in the future.

I'm expecting by then that the whole 'carbon' groupthink is gone by then, so we can have methanol.  The nutties still want to get rid of natgas, but wait for the coming winters.

ps as well as a methanol fuel cell, I'm going with capacitors.

Trump restarts the war

We continue with the trumpthings changing every minute.  Insanity is a bitch.  Right now, he's back to something that makes sense - the Ukrainian Method.  That is, light up oil ships in port.

Basically, he can use his handful of tomahawks to pop a ship.  It just burns and sinks in port.  No need to clog up the strait.  No crap about 'civilian targets'.  There are no civilian targets in Iran.  Wait until the wind blows the smoke unto land.

No ships will go into the strait anyway.  This great system just doubles the price of gasoline for the Texas supporters.  They will forgive him.  All is good.

ps has changed his mind again and will pop Iranian ships in the channel, which is only 60m deep.  The partially sunken ships will stick out like geoducks in the mud.

Does weather exist?

Today, I looked at the weather and decided to go into philosophy.  Why clog the airwaves with pictures of doom?  It is time to plant the lettuce.

ps ok, fine.  Seeing the UK freeze has got me going again.  They are all waiting for the Second Coming of El Nino.

Tropical plume health is horrible.  All our heat energy in the north comes from these things, until July.

The main Atlantic plume is always an offshoot of the Pacific plumes crossing NAm.  It strives for, but does not reach the UK.  A very little offshoot is giving us rain in Toronto.  We will not suffer from drought.

The Arctic is strong, the ice machine continues to spin, and the US is enjoying stagnant heat.

The Arctic spins away, and casts down blobs of cold.  The Pacific plumes can't kill it.

The Pacific ocean currents are beyond understanding, but it ain't no el no-no.

The world air temps are on a strong hook downward.

We have to assume that future Arctic blobs are only strong enough to reach the border.  That gives us solid rain forever, and stagnant heat in the US.  The Warmie Summer is here and we will have endless enjoyment in the news.  The 300 year drought begins.

ps my official count is 11 for Canada who read about 15 min.  My thousands are from Singapore, who read for 0s, indicating link spam.  The US reads for 11s per article, indicating Artie work.
