Cold blob descends

The Polar Vortex Fairies are on the march.

This is an amazing graphic, and we have never really seen this before, because of the short history of satellite observation.

For some reason, the left-overs of the tropical plumes have all drifted to the North Pole, so it is actually warmer than the blobs to the side.  That wonderful energy continues to push the blob down to Toronto.  Pipes will burst.  I'm glad they replaced our water main.

ps.  you can see a powerful surface-wind clipper within the cold air, the driving force is straight from the pole.

Lake Superior has clear ice, which is out of living memory.  Maybe we'll have an ice bridge at Niagara.

pps.  Look to this map becoming full of ice by next week.
