Runners in the Storm

Sorry, a two second observation.  To add to the 2 trillion dollar damage the warmies have done to us, I wish to point out electric trains and runners.

Our old streetcars had this horribly heavy connection to the overhead wire.  If the driver wants to fix it, he has to put his full weight on the cable, and yank it down, and hook it into place.  It is a high-force, hooked connection to the power wire.  You can put a scraper in it, and it takes care of any snow and ice.  These streetcars ran through heavy snow and ice.

Due to the belief that we will soon no longer have winter, everything in Canada is switching to 'tropical runners'.  These are the European standard, and look cool.  They are also ten times lighter, because they can slide for all the wobbles.  Such a wonderful thing.

Except a little bit of snow knocks them out of service.  The Ottawa Never-Run LRT uses these.  Sing the song:  "It ain't going to snow no more, no more".

I'm looking in the news today, and I don't see the usual "This is just a blip." stuff.  Maybe all these writers are stuck in the snow.  Have fun!

ps our snowplows are inadequate.  Big grader is only rear-wheel drive.  Can't get up our hill.  Couldn't operate the driveway cleaner for our driveway.  Yeah, I got a 3 foot snowrow.
