This is just the tip. They have tried to force all the depressive workers back to the offices, but that's a loser. These downtown drug stores are leaving because they are invaded every day by druggies. The lefties love these 'homeless' people, but it is getting ridiculous. I know one downtown store where they pour in and steal everything. Get arrested and out the next day. Will the solution be to put everyone in jail? No, Mr. Righty, huge death camps are not the answer.
The other problem is all those nice condos on top of that store are worthless. You can't walk downtown any more. At least I won't. How long can housing sales be at zero? I'm assuming that the banks are holding the housing, but who knows?
Carney is pulling us back to 'hewers of wood, and diggers of rock' or whatever. But we need more. All our problems can be solved with money, but there isn't any, unlike leftie dreams of money growing on trees.
All my life, I have pushed engineering solutions that are politically impossible. Here's my standard idea - grow all drugs in greenhouses. Lots of work, lots of money. Alcoholics can only be cured in an environment where they can get all they want to drink. Same with drugs. The druggies only go to the most deadly concentrations because that is easy to smuggle and distribute. The base drugs, such as coca, and poppy juice are bulky and healthier, but currently impossible to obtain.
With money, the drug addicts can be given a choice to live in paradise with all the drugs they can consume. This is 'voluntary confinement'. Doug Ford only went to rehab with a truckload of booze. It is also an environment where we can figure out how to get people off addiction, like the fat drugs.
Unfortunately, people have a power interest in the status quo. I think we will have to break upon the rocks before anything changes. Don't worry, we have survived the 30's.
