I looked up this issue forever. Scrolling the googs news, there were huge delays, and very clunky. Finally, I found this is due to your local isp being cheap on the dns. So, change the dns in the router to 1.1.1.1 (cloudflare), and 8.8.8.8 (google). Works great.
ps. big complication with openwrt. Set the wan dns to keep the local dns.
pps. this is a major problem just with Google News. All over the place. I will wait for the bug fix.
