You need one of these if your furnace is in a room without a basement drain. It is very reliable and pumps the water through a tube, over the hallway.
The last one lasted a very long time, and was clear when I took it out. I bought a replacement 6 years ago, and never looked at it, and it burned out in 6 years. Now I have a brand new one.
The pump gets distilled water from the air conditioner, and natgas condensate from the furnace. None of this is conducive to life or mineralization, so I never looked at it. Upon taking it apart, I found clear bacterial mats, as tough as leather. These sheets clogged up the pump.
A little bit of sulphur and other 'earth stuff' identical to the beginning of life. These are the bacterial mats that created stromatolites.
We saw these in Nfld and I gave my sister a long lecture, on how the mats fight each other on the same rock, and you can see the boundaries. To exist on the rocks at that time, the mats were tough. And I had them in my basement! They are formed by Archea bacteria, which still float around, and clean groundwater deep in the soil
Needless to say, I will now open it up once a year, and pour in cleaning vinegar. Don't want them taking over the world!
ps yeah, Roxie the wonderdog just saved a lost puppy. Lady came up in the car and asked if we saw a dog, and she was so upset she described it all wrong. I said no, and a minute later a little dog came running up. For a minute, I thought it was another lost dog, and asked some of the neighbours. I just put Roxie's leash on the dog, and continued the walk. Luckily the lady came back, and all was well. The little dog just loved Roxie, and I had to tell her firmly to be nice. She hates little dogs.
