This is an interesting story. I have found that nobody goes with geotechnical engineering any more, and it comes back once in a while to bite. Every single condo in Toronto is built the same way, with soldier piles and tie-backs. It is probably an influencer opinion to not worry about that sort of thing, since you save a couple of bucks. Neat.
