Now, this could get upset again with some good typhoons, but that Hawaii one has gone to a pin-prick.
It should just become one big vortex like last year. This is a heat machine living on the heat difference between the upper atmosphere and the cold air sludge it poops out at the bottom. We get the poop.
Figuring out the exact mechanism makes my brain hurt, and we don't have enough measurements. A standard hurricane uses heat energy at the bottom and poops out greater entropy (low grade heat) at the top. Can't figure out that one either, but it is ten times more complicated than the standard bathtub drain model.
The Arctic vortex can only exist when there is almost no heat energy in the world. Just the wisp of a Pacific plume kills it.
With this sign, our misery index for the winter will be higher than last year, and higher after that. Expect snow lasting from October to May. Fun, fun, fun.
Or, Super Ellie will coming zooming in and sweep all this away. (just watched Supergirl) yuck.
Typhoons could save us, but the situation is sad.
World chart is sad, subpolar Atlantic is sad.
