Yeah, it makes it tougher to explain our extreme cold.
Some curl is trying to start in the Gulf. This would normally be Hurricane #3, except the cold air boundary is way into the Gulf, covering the cool area created by the hurricanes.
For a hurricane, we would need the cold blob to stay where it was before, and the hurricanes just zipped along the boundary. Europe is a big soggy mess, and there is Rain in Spain. I've turned the comments back on, but I expect nothing interesting coming up, and most likely won't post much.

ps and they repeated the quote "According to Australian weather officials, persistent ocean heat means that El Niño and La Niña “may not necessarily behave or evolve as they have in the past.” I say that, but not because of 'excess ocean heat'.
