Wow, now they're using a CAT scan to look at the core!
Why does this not thrill me?
Fault Stress boring story Part II Subduction Zone
And somebody was asking me about the Darlington power track which is in this archive.
Anyway, let them blow a few billion on fault drilling. It's just as good as the Niagara Exploration Tunnel.

Did somebody say Cat?
Sounds like cutting edge geology.
Dumb question from peanut gallery, please don't throw chalk if you have already answered this... Do they need to know the orientation(ie; which way is north) of the sample in the core? And what does a fault line look like in a core sample?
They have various ways of determining the orientation of the core. And a fault is very unimpressive, as seen by the San Andreas coring.
