A sad comment on the state of geotechnical engineering

This is sad.  Why do they need a bunch of people in the background wearing paper bags over their heads?  Geotech died a long time ago.  I was that type of engineer, but everybody went to 'design build' and retaining wall systems killed us.  Now, nobody does this type of engineering, and they are all perfectly happy to fail and blame 'soil conditions'.  That should never happen, the excuse is phoney.

I am rolling over in my grave of engineering.  Good thing I don't have to think any more.  On to the next sad thing.

The real reason for these things, is that they are too cheap.  And there is no consequence for failed engineering, since it is all a muck.  The good old days with a real engineer, they went for a 1 in 10000 chance of failure, because they didn't want anything to spoil their retirement.

Also, they leave physics behind.  Be prepared for a ton of more engineering failures, and more wonderful excuses.

Just think of a tunnel under the 401!

ps. this article is popular.  Looking back at that picture, it is my vision of 'design build', one tyrant at the front, and anonymous, hiding engineers in the back.
