Physics Hates Fusion - Part 1

I know that no reader of mine has any money, but don't put any money into this.  They are all about impressing the influencers, and raising money, but they ignore important physics.  You would think these guys are all into the Scientific Method, but they have left that train a long time ago, and are into the hype that impresses people these days.

Just think of fusion as a diesel engine.  You compress and heat the fuel to the point where it produces heat energy.  The diesel piston then expands and converts the heat energy into work, or useful energy.  It's cyclic -- the piston goes down and comes back up.

Fusion is exactly the same.  You compress and heat the fuel, and it 'fuses', releases heat and a lot of neutrons.  How to convert this to something useful?  All the excitement right now is getting the fuel to 'combust' but not just a single atom.  They need something 'sustained'.  Is this a milestone for investment?
