One day, this will be recognized as the main thermometer of the entire volume of the oceans. But not this day. All I can do is mention it for my few readers, and they can go - ooh, aah!
This is the only level gauge I can find. That means it neither goes up or down relative to the centre of the Earth. When a gauge is sinking due to natural forces on the land (geological), they say the ocean level is rising. They ignore the other way. One of those fine examples of 'selective vision'.
I spent my working career doing this sort of geophysics, but I am nothing compared to an influencer. That's fine, less pressure.
