Came back from the cottage and heard a whining from the computer. Then I turned it off and on. There was a clunking and hammering I never heard before. Opened it and a disk was very hot. I had to reinstall Linux to get everything to settle down, but the disk is toast. Just backups on it anyway and it was very old.
