I knew this would happen. Someone at OPG would figure out this site has been operating since the beginning of the tunnel. That's where I've been getting all my 'inside' information!
With the tunnel mucked up again, and the liner ready to explode at random*, they have clammed up. Maybe they aren't doing anything?
*When dealing with the overbreak, they have straightened up the steel sets to fit the oblong geometry. This is a big no-no! Now, the steel sets are primed for a buckle-explosion, with just a little bit of rock squeeze and compression. They principle is the same as the little cricket clickers we had as a kid. If there is another rockburst, we might not hear about it, although they will... :)

So if they started all over and tried to run the TBM 1/2 tunnel width offset to the original hole it would make an oval hole. A few of those rock rasps from the fantasy tunnel et voilla. Then they have to wait 6 months for it to stabilize. But they could keep cutting as it will take more than 6 months to cut the hole?
Double the cost I imagine but at least it wont cave in and be less than worthless.
Also if the person doing the Geofish Clarified ( I suspect your #1 son) is reading the link to part 3 of the first disater of Niagara tunnel section links to part 2 instead.
I did find it very interesting to reread.
They might be able to take out that horrible 'liner' and grind out the tunnel to an elliptical shape, but I'd really be worried how much damage they did to the roof rock. The idea would be to grind out to undamaged rock, and let the rock sit until it stopped squeezing, then they could pour in a proper liner.
