Bangkok tower a pile of dust

This is a crime, but it's all over the world.  Not a speck of steel in shoddy concrete.  No slab remains intact.  Probably built on a swamp.

This most likely failed at 10 cm/s.  Perhaps the ground conditions amplified it more.  We can be sure that this far from the fault, the rock ground motion was less than 5 cm/s.  The big question will be the hundreds of other buildings that didn't quite collapse.

This fault is slowly working up to an M9.  Maybe not in our lifetimes, but certainly in the lifetimes of these buildings.  We need to spread the 2-buck accelerometers everywhere.  We need to get solid foundations.  But, we won't.
