An article from Ottawa. There really isn't too much going on for this week. Ottawa prefers to ignore what they are sitting on, but I don't blame them. Earthquakes just don't exist until they happen. I never saw any place prepare for earthquakes until they actual feel one.

Speaking of diasters, I got a comment on my article about the Alesund landslide... somethinga bout expansive clay and insufficient bolting. The Comment leads to a news article with a pretty good picture of the rock face. Unfortunately, it's in Norwegian. But you might like to go take a look.
One thing I like about having a "water cooler" in the house is we always have two or three 5-gallon jugs of water, so I don't have to worry about storing or rotating jugs myself. The pantry provides food for a week. The gas stove, if gas is on, keeps the house above freezing. We have lots of candles. Otherwise, it's drain the pipes and bundle up! Each adult gets two kitties for foot-warmers.
Your emergency preparations sound good. That's basically what I do, and there is plenty of water in the hot water tank.
I couldn't get through the Norwegian, but it looks like they cut out the toe of the slope, and there was an old fault with clay in it.
