Hey, nobody gives a hoot about airguns in the Arctic, because this is war! This is an interesting article, and shows how everybody is cooperating scientifically.... for now. :)
Airguns penetrate the sediments. These could probably see if there could be oil, but not good enough to drill. It's funny that if it's good for oil, it has to be part of the continental shelf, and is Canadian. The only thing good for the Americans is if there is a detached submerged island arc, farther than 200 km. This is probably fantasy.

Does an air gun has subsurface (oil exploration) applications over and above sea floor mapping in the context of this article?
Funny that this was going on while they were having the big photo ops re: Arctic sovereignty in Iqaluit a few weeks ago.
