Bruce Nuclear Sees the Light

Article

Bruce Nuclear has ended its very silly plan to build nuclear plants on impossible sites. I predicted that this would happen, but my Nanticoke buddies got all worked up about it anyway.

The only impossible site remaining is the deep waste disposal pit at Bruce. This will soon join its brethren in the 'great idea cesspool in the sky'. :)

Whooee! Yer an oracle, Harold. I won't doubt you ever again. Interestingly, the deadline for applying for public participation funding was this coming Monday. Bruce pulled the plug just before the anti-nukes got any fun money.

The reasoning they state and the real reasons are likely different things. As far as the EA goes, it was destined to be approved --- 97% of 'em are. What killed this was the ever-increasing price tag coupled with Smitherman's statements that Ontario would not buy a kwh of electricity from a Nanticoke nuke plant.

The estimated price went from $7 bn last November to $15 most recently. What investor in their right mind would back such a project? When Bruce finally accepted the fact that they'd never be getting any big fish to bite, they cut their losses and walked away.

Anyways, HaroldFeller, it's been good yammerin' back an' forth with you on this Nanticoke thing. If yer ever down in Norfolk County, let me know an' I'll buy you a beer.

Yeah! I always thought it was some political bid to support AECL.
