All food will kill you

Yeah, the doomers have moved on from 'clange will kill you' to 'Flour will kill you'.  The 'Alcohol will kill you' thing never got on, especially after covid -- another Scotch please.

In the 50's we were raised on wonder-bread.  But we got peanut butter, and were forced to eat our veggies.  That's the point, if you are a vegan and live on white sugar, then that's not good.  You need variety to be healthy.

I make homemade bread with standard all-purpose flour.  That's to hold the bread together in order to add a lot of other stuff.  Try whole wheat flour!  blah.

I can't see them getting far with this doomer story.  On to the next.  I have to make my new batch of Aronia juice.  That has been the biggest change for me, of all supplements.

Spring Pacific Plumes not strong enough

The sad part of not having heat energy.  It all looks good, like an influencer, then their words turn to dust.

The first plume broke apart.

There's always the next influencer plume.

Weak plumes give us cold clippers.  There's the next one forming up.

The seedlings are still going in and out.  Don't plant the beans yet.  Everybody up north, putting in docks, say they are 3-4 weeks behind.  This will add another week.  I was hoping all this would hit Europe.

And the game goes on

Had she done her physics, maybe a million dollars, we would be ditching all the clange crap and going for natgas and oil.  Everybody would be happy.  But she didn't and she puts on her big trumpy influencer face.  The heck with her!

Carney isn't going to do the physics.  Nobody is.  We just go for dog walks and grumble about the weather.

ps changed my profile picture again.

Humping fish cause low seismic signal

This is funny -- humping fish or humpbacks?  Needs a seismic survey.  Time for my 2 buck seismometers, if I ever get them working.  Maybe the atmospheric cannons that blew out Spain.

The Spring Machine Finally Coughs and Stutters to Life

Houston, we have a Spring Pattern.

These plumes look good.  They will march down the equatorial belt and smash Vancouver.  Who cares about that place?  The plumes are crossing the mountains, and doing their job of Spring Cleaning.  Out goes the cobwebs of cold.

It looks beautiful and I can plant the broccoli, and no more 'in and out' for the seedlings.  Naturally, I speak out of both sides of my mouth, because there are uncertainties, but this looks good -- 80%.

Let it squeeze all the cold over Europe.  They got it easy this winter.

Europe enjoyed an active Gulf Stream, as it drained out the last of Atlantic heat.  Not so happy next year.

ps  right now, the air coming in the door is humid and hot -- jungle weather.  This is never good when we have a freezing cold blob approaching at speed.

ps woo hoo! Dog and I almost got caught in it.

Stagnant temperature change may have zapped the power

I'm flipping the max and min temperatures here.  A big difference, but the explanation seems a bit much.  Anyway, expect a lot more of this.  Ocean breezes moderate the temperature, and they aren't happening.

Hope Spain Guy is okay.

ps yeah, blamed on climate change

The big lines go up and down with temperature change.  Very hot desert weather causes the lines to sag, and cold shrinks the lines.  This can cause all sorts of problems because a big line is a wave guide to AC power.

ps and the guard is going for solar and wind, which don't have the inertia to carry through a frequency disruption.  They are thinking of a design for solwind that can simulate inertia with batteries - ha!  Those ding-dongs can't make anything right.

Arctic air on the move

This has been obvious to me over the years, but I don't have to like it.  Our great hope, the Pacific plumes have shattered against the mountains.

We have huge Arctic blobs coming down.  Good chance for lots of snow in May.  The weather people are now calling this 'typical' like they are going back to the 70's and forgetting about the warm cycle.

Europe is also getting the Arctic blobs.

ps  as usual, the clash of blobs means severe weather.

ps and on this fine election day, no ballots will be valid in Alberta, because they will all scrawl Trump on them.

Hope they spell it right.

ps so stinkin' hot today.  Get ready for a stagnant summer.  Tune your air conditioning.  I may need an air conditioner for the cottage.

Courts against the Scientific Method and Physics

Canada used to be pretty good at this stuff, but who knows now?  This is a result of ditching the SM and going with popular opinion.  They picked a different disease than the US.  Why not?  Pick any disease you want, the legal method is always the same.

roundup is a big fuzzy bunny molecule that all bacteria love to eat.  You can't drink the stuff, but people are immersed in tons of it all the time, and nothing happens on a large population scale.  It gets into water, and does not break down as quickly, but that is bad application.  It's as harmless as water.

Yet, people drown, and no class action on water.  Maybe that's too far for the lawyers.  I expect this lawsuit to die in Canada.

For all nasty stuff, a personal dose has one in million chance of doing anything.  You only notice on a large scale that something is wrong.  Then you have to find the mechanism.  Does it mutate cells?  Does it accumulate in eagle eggs?  All of this stuff is measurable.  Influencer Science has nothing to do with measurements, it is what it is.

Sword of cold over our heads

We open up with the good news of possible heat coming our way out of the Pacific.  Our regular Spring had a series of strong plumes washing over us.  Not this day.  We have some sickly plumes and we don't know what they will do.

We have yo-yo weather, and I have never brought the tomatoes in and out so many times before.

And here it is, the amazing Sword of Cold hanging by a thread over us.  All the action is at Toronto, where the edges just dance back and forth.  I have no idea what the Pacific plumes are going to do.

ps.  This should also apply to clange...

ps. Pacific plumes appear to be washouts -- not enough energy to get over the mountains.

ps  general hate in Canada was going down.  It was directed where it belonged -- to the US.  But some people just like to stir up internal hate.

We will not blame him for the murders.

State of the Oceans - April 26, 2025

There is no change in the oceans this week.  However, I put this down as an archive, mainly because I only see the Random Heating Events in hindsight.  These are zones of uniform surface current that acts as a giant radiator to warm the earth.  The mechanisms behind these things are amazing.

The Gulf Stream action is amazing, and it keeps the UK warm and toasty.  The Pacific is dead.

The Pacific has a thin return current, but it is not carrying any heat energy.

ps forgot the two big charts.

The world chart had a little bobble.

And the Nino band.  These may be heating events, but the resolution is too coarse to see them.

ps Binomial Theorem states that little wobbles give birth to big ones.

Weather is the same mess

I suppose I could just copy that title for quite a few more times.  There is nothing going on.  When summer hits, this will be a hot mess.

ps really cold on the dog walk this morning.  Turning into the north wind was an experience.  All the plants have to go in tonight.

ps. did compost work and started pressure washing the patio.  We must all get ready for the dog days of summer.  With my arm hurting, I took my cannabis oil.  Cures and stops the pain, but everybody I know has used that break from pain to do work again, and really wreck themselves.  Pain is a lesson.

Linux - reading the ADXL355 data registers

This has had me stumped for months.  No matter what I did, I could not read the data registers.  The 355 is a very sensitive accelerometer and has been around for years.  Lots of support ending with 'I got it solved', and no hint as to what finally did it.

Now, in an exclusive to this paper, we divulge the secret, rendered down the simplest.

On your rp5, you set up the I2c.  This is all over the place.  Then do i2cdetect -y 1 and you get the famous 1d signal.  You are hooked up, and you can read and write all the registers, but the data registers are all zero.

Reset the darn thing for fun

i2cset -y 1 0x1d 0x2f 0x52

i2cset and i2cget are simplest thing to do for 12c.  No use going to python if you can't get this working.  Manths and months!

Now, you have to superstitiously and religiously do these 3 lines in sequence.

i2cset -y 1 0x1d 0x2d 0x00

 i2cset -y 1 0x1d 0x2c 0x00

 i2cset -y 1 0x1d 0x28 0x00

These are the stinking default values!  You wouldn't think.  But you have to do it.

henv) harold@rasp5:~ $ i2cget -y 1 0x1d 0x09

0xc4

Then the data flows!  I'll go back to all the drivers I have, none of which do this.

ps this continues my dream of the 2-buck accelerometer which will save us all from earthquakes, or not.

ps  suddenly the rp5 refuses to talk to any of my adxl355 boards.  345 still works.  blah.

Nothing much for the weather

Looks like everything is on and off.

Nothing from the Pacific.  We are setting up for our stagnant summer with desert weather.  Sunny and warm in the day, cold at night.

The Arctic cold is retreating, but it is still there, ready to pounce.  We are so getting our snow in May.

ps and to cheer a dull day.

can't help thinking that vance came back.

A mild earthquake for Istanbul

This was an extension earthquake way out in the water.  Extension earthquakes have far less bang for the buck in regards to peak ground velocity for the magnitude.

The city probably got a few cm/s.  A real earthquake is expected for the area along the big strike-slip fault, but this earthquake doesn't tell us anything.

The opposite of anything happening

May you live in interesting times -- not here.

ps.  lots going on in the verbiage department

this is funny since they can't calculate their way out of a paper bag.

Canada Customs Spooked by Trump

Having a snooze, then a big thump on the door and the wife screaming.  We ordered two nice garden tubs from Amazon.

We love these tubs and ordered two more.  Only one came and the price was $28 extra.  I paid.  I'm a Canadian.

We looked at the customs slip and it was assessed as nasty smuggling, and was really a fancy leather handbag worth many times more  With such a high value, the other one was stolen and stolen again in a Washington restaurant.

I contacted the seller and said they make these tubs too stylish.  He'll probably respond and saying they are appearing on the Paris catwalk next month, and we were lucky to get the first two.

We'll see how this pans out.

ps here's the actual thingie, turning a plastic tub into a leather purse.

ps second tub came today marked the same.  Those guys are persistent!  This time I refused delivery.

Earth has stratified

I've said before that if we didn't have N-S ocean currents or ocean plumes then all temperatures would be rings like Jupiter.  That means all zones would be 'default weather' or seasonal ambient.  This is what we have now with North America.  I'm not looking anywhere else.  The only measure of the seasonal ambient is the minimum night temperature, and never the peak day temperature, which is the favourite of Influencer Science.

Just rings.  This has other horrible implications of no rain anywhere, but it won't last long.

ps and in news we have "If you don't like the trumpy policy, just wait 5 minutes'.

ps and this is funny -- they cost the world trillions with influencer science.

ps and I love this.  Engineering without physics.  So a bunch of English Majors will throw things out the window of the plane, and see what happens.  No matter what, they will want more money.

All air blobs seem to be out of energy

Everything stops at Toronto.

This is 'grey goo' weather, the bottom of entropy.  That cold clipper stopped, and we are in gloomy stagnant weather.

And you think -- 'Surely, something will come from the oceans and save us.'  Nope.  Everything is in a funk.

ps  -- dang, the wind makes it too cold for garden work.  No polar vortex fairies lately.  They'll be back.

ps -- look at the winds, we have a 'Storm Snake'

ps omg, the kids just back from the UK.  They were under the impression that people were questioning them, to see if they were 'mericans in disguise.

Divisive tax cuts

pp will go all harperistic if, in the remote chance, he gets elected.  We need program cuts, but every single one has its staunch defenders.  I wrote that we have to go into a depression before people stop thinking that money grows on trees.

In a way trmpy is going down the route of a 30's depression.  Stupidity?  Like a fox.  Who knows?  Only a full depression can reset the mindset.  In Canada, as soon as anybody talks of a cut, the interested parties line up the 1% that are screwed.  Maybe that's 0.1%.  Most of gov't largess goes to powerful people who just want to get richer, like lawyers.

The big 70's recession wasn't enough, nor 2008.  We need something really big.  It's now or later.  I don't want it, but it is something to look at when it comes.  Is there a silver lining?  blah.  And the big question is how many times can the gov't open the taps?

ps  no comment since I love the cbc, but it is a useless leftie channel.

ps the title should be 'spending cuts' to make tax cuts -- sheesh.

Weather too sad to talk about

If you can't say anything nice about the weather, then don't say anything at all.

ps fine.

Blob still coming down.  Cold air is replacing the Gulf warm air.

No Pacific plumes.  Arctic is still as cold as ever.

ps.  icy rain hit us on the dog walk.  Missed the worst of it.

ps ok, now I'm longing for the fantasy - warmest winter ever!  and a very early spring.  That was their forecast, but nobody mentions it now, too bad.

State of the Oceans - April 20, 2025 -- Easter Sunday

Yeah, today we will look at the oceans, and find an Easter egg of heat energy.  One can only hope.

I do things differently from the weather people who started all this clange stuff.  I forecast based on heat energy, and kinetic things, like velocity, momentum, mass.  That sort of thing.  Fortunately, this leaves me totally separated from the Influencer Science, and I don't know what that is based on.  I do my predictions and they do theirs.  Thank goodness, nobody keeps track of either, so one is always as right at the other.

The basic problem is the mechanism of how the Earth gathers in heat energy to make us warm.  What generally happens on land is that the Sun beams in lots of photons, and they all beam out again.  On a clear night in the north, you can see that all the heat of the day is gone in a few hours.  Try getting out of your tent at 2 am to pee!

We have historic heat cycles, people only keep track of the warm ones, but there is a cold one that follows, or they wouldn't be cycles.  That means heat energy has to be stored, and then released.  The mechanism is unknown because nobody will do the physics.  Perhaps it is important.

At this point in the cycles, we have dumped all our heat energy and going to a minimum.  This could be the Small Ice Cycle, like the 1970's, or a large cycle like the Little Ice Age, which I call a major ice cycle.

We can only look to the oceans, because the land temperature mechanisms are off calibration because of urbanization.

This is the world -- dive dive dive!

This is the North Atlantic, the only other large section of ocean they plot.

This is the Nino band, a tiny bit of the Pacific along the equator.  It used to be glorious.

Sad.  I also put in the ocean currents.  A random heating event always shows a current disturbance and I always miss it.  The key to the mechanism is in that.

The videos show the Gulf Stream and the Pacific equatorial belt.  The GS is showing that it wants to flee the upper UK area.  It regularly visits Spain.  If it is in Spain for the winter, then the UK gets full Arctic spills.  But, it is on and off.

The summary is that I can see no hope for heat energy because of the huge turnover of the equatorial feed to Antarctic waters.  I have no context for this.  However, it is a good chance for a Major ice cycle, and we won't be able to tell the difference from a minor one for 20 years.  No physics means very high uncertainty.

ps today I pressured up my horribly complex soaker hose system.  I used spare parts from everything I had.  50% of the connections leaked.  Yeah!  tomorrow 50% of the leakers fixed.  Yeah!
