Volcano Wagging

As a rock mechanics person, I'm always insulted when the volcanologists come up with a dynamic model that doesn't include the surrounding rock.  It always begins and ends with the magma.  One day we'll get to both magma and rock.  :)

The dangers of specialisation ?

Could there be a volcano to come along New Madrdid ?

( I'm remembering the story of the Mexican cornfield volcano ! )

Yes, specialization is the problem. I'm a jack of all trades, and master of none! Volcanoes only want to live along scenic plate margins, although there are exceptions, like hotspots, etc. New Madrid is on cold crust.

A new article says that Mt. Baker should be blowing soon.
