The big problem is that people out of high school don't know what they want. University has always been a place holder. The last few years, a degree has been useless, but it still does something. I was recommending a 3 year degree, and then go into computers or college. Five years later, a degree helps going to senior positions. Now, it looks like time to give up on university. No young person reads anymore.
The most important thing is to mix your natural talents with education. Then you are unique and not a dime a dozen.
