The use of trail cameras for neighbourhood security

Our neighbourhood curls around a spooky ravine, and everybody decided to build monster houses, down the spooky roads.  Now, it has become a free-for-all for home invasions.  The extreme isolation of the houses are not a good thing.

There is now a big political group trying to get more policing, etc.  My neighbourhood is on the civilized fringe, and I don't worry.  Besides, I have a dog that scares all the Amazon guys.  I am forever ashamed that the neighbourhood kids, whom Roxie knows well, got the surprise of their lives when she snuck out between my legs on Halloween.  Boy, is she proud of herself!

Knowing me, you can see that I have already alienated everybody in the neighbourhood group with my ideas.  They all want to go super right wing with bail reforms, etc.  I wanted more street cameras.

I've come up with another great idea, which I will never bring up in the Whatsapp chat.  That's using cheap Chinese trail cameras.

This is the most amazing thing.  It runs like a dashcam with a revolving file system, on a 32gb chip.  It does video and still shots, and records audio.  I'm testing it now out back to watch the dog poop.  It's so cheap, and could be ordered in bulk.  Once it is up, it is nearly invisible.  They would only be emptied when there was an incident, so no great privacy thing.  I would put them on trees in the valley, and in backyards etc.  They are low, and record audio, so the whole hoodie thing won't work.  They last several months on standard batteries.

A great idea that will forever go mouldy in my archives.

  1. forget trail cameras I'm using normal 2.4Ghz wifi IP cameras at 30€ each...AI detection, 2 way talking, lights and alarms. For long distance (up to a km) I'm using HaLow bridges (you can also get HaLow cameras) with 2.4Ghz end points. All solar powered and cheap from Amazon or AliExpress.

    1. It's so cool.I grabbed 2k video from my moving quad bike in deep forest, no line of sight and in a valley with rock sides. No mobile or wifi signal and I only found out when I got back in wifi range... 59€ for the camera and hub. I'm away to try with their 3km stuff. I'll probably get half that but omg. Canada LoRa freq, which it runs on is probably more powerful than the EU freq.
