Our nice neighbourhood had a social upheaval of wealthier owners, and now we are #1 on the list for heavy burglars. Like over-tourism in Europe, a place can take a 10% influx of strangers (tourists), but has a lot of trouble with more. We are at 20 or 30%.
Instructions to get things back to a neighbourhood. I am a local walker with my dog, and I smile at everyone. It takes an effort because you get 30% who are unfriendly. This is generally bad.
Isolation vs. Community - The city is great because you can live your own life, and nobody pokes into it. Unlike my stint in the pure country when I was a kid. That can be brutal if you are off the list.
If you want to cut down on the crime, you need to put on a veneer of country charm. Nobody will intrude on your privacy. Cut down on the full tint of the car. That depresses everybody. With general friendliness, you can have your cake and eat it too.
This goes to the illusion that your empty house is occupied. Even if you armour your windows, they'll just come with a bobcat. You must show lots of people having a party. Easy to do these days.
I know you have the right to be obnoxious, but you will pay for it. There are so many people who like they will kill you rather than smile. We have gone over the limit for this, and we invite the smashers.
